Thou Shalt Bet With Your Head & Not With Your Heart
This happens to many a novice gambler. Let's say you are a Red Sox fan. Let's say you watch every Red Sox game and read every blog dedicated to the team. Your first assumption is your knowledge of the Red Sox may give you an edge in betting on them. This would be true if you can separate the fan in you from the gambler. I know people that won't bet the Yankees when they are playing the Red Sox even when they think the Red Sox are going to lose. It is hard for them to root against their team. To be successful at sports gambling, that mentality needs to stop. Until a day comes when you can go to the Walmart and pay for your items with "passion", you are just doing the gambler in you a disservice. There is a reason why we remember a gambling loss game 87 of the season and forget a Red Sox loss game 87 of the season. One means more than the other. Keep that in mind when handicapping.

We are taking a look at the Reds/Cardinals match up today. Jaime Garcia is on the mound for the Cardinals in a series that has seen the OVER cover 7 out of 11 games. Garcia was on the winning end of one of those games in a 8-1 victory 12 days ago. Quite often, when a team sees the same pitcher twice in a month's time, they hit them the 2nd time around better. Garcia is 3-0 in his last 3 starts, but his ERA has gone up for the season in those starts. Garcia on the road is a different pitcher then at home. He has not lasted more than 6 innings in any of his 5 starts on the road. The Reds are starting Homer Bailey who is 0-3 in his last starts with an ERA of 6.00. In his 10 starts this season, the OVER has covered 7 times. I do believe Bailey will pitch one of his better games of the season today. The Reds have scored an average of 5 runs a game in their last 9 games. Expect them to keep the pattern of solid offense going today. Final Score: Reds 7 Cards 3.
