Today's blog is going to be done more in question form. Musings that crossed my mind the last 24 hours. Ramblings that will eventually lead to a winning pick from me. God, I hope so. Will Philadelphia ever make a layup against Miami again, or will they continue failing to penetrate like a geek on prom night? If Derrick Rose missed a game with Chicago, would Indiana beat them by 30 or 40? Did Terry Francona have the OVER 9.5 total on the Red Sox/Blue Jays game yesterday when he decided to bring Tim Wakefield into the game in the 9th? Did Baltimore take a page out of Charlie Sheen's playbook and stop "winning" altogether 2 weeks ago? Did Tim Lincecum get the memo that he was pitching in Coors Field yesterday? The guy puts more arms and legs into every pitch. When he retires, he has a spot on "Dancing With The Stars". Do I just bet the UNDER on every San Diego Padres game from here on out? With offense that anemic, a 4 run game for those guys is a pyrrhic victory. Last but not least, do you think the New York Knicks will be sending Christmas cards to the referees of Game 1 this year? That brings me to my play of the day.
Game 1 of the Boston/New York series was a defensive struggle. The Celtics held the Knicks to 21 points below their season average. The Knicks, a team known to shy away from anything remotely resembling defense, frustrated the Celtics with their tempo and ball distribution pretty much the whole game. Was the 172 point affair an aberration, or a sign for things to come in this series? The lines makers had game 1 as a 198 point total, and have tonight's game at 193. Carmelo Anthony said he was not overly impressed with the Celtics defense and said he missed shots he should have made. Watching that game, I tend to agree with him. Will Jermaine O'Neal have an inspired game like he did Sunday, or will he revert back to his minor role playing self? In the last 35 games, the Celtics are 9-25-1 ATS after a straight up playoff win. When the Celtics lose (or not cover) they tend to give up points. Granted, game 1 did not reflect that, but I think game 2 will. My play of the day is Boston/New York OVER 193 -110. Good luck, and let's cash some tickets!!
