In sports, epic comebacks are a rarity. Yesterday, the Portland Trailblazers rallied from an 18 point deficit in the 4th quarter to beat the Dallas Mavericks. Brandon Roy became the player of old as he scored 18 of his 24 points in crunch time. Only 2 other teams in the shot clock era had ever won a playoff game when trailing by 18 or more points heading into the final frame. Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle was quoted saying that his team "Let up". Unlike the Mavericks, there is no letting up in handicapping. When researching games for my blog and for vegaskillers.com, I take a relentless approach. I know it's a marathon and not a sprint. My followers understand that we may start the "game" behind, but in the end, they will be profitable when the buzzer sounds. I just opened my coffee filled thermos, and took my peanut butter and jelly sandwich out of the lunch pail. I am hungry to give you my free play of the day!
The San Diego Padres are a perennial low scoring team. Their fans consider a 3 run game an offensive explosion. The Philadelphia Phillies have the strongest starting pitching staff on paper. Roy Halladay is starting today, and he has the ability to not only shutout, but to no hit teams. These facts would lead many to jump on the UNDER on this ball game. This is where my research comes into play. Here are a few reasons why the OVER is my play. Wade LeBlanc is starting for the Padres. He has not started a game this season, and has a losing record lifetime. The Phillies bats are beginning to heat up, and they have the 11th best batting average in baseball. They are a team that hits bad pitching. The Padres have scored 2 runs in their last 3 games, but yesterday were able to get men on base. The hitters left 15 men on base yesterday. Usually teams that leave men on base the day before, find a way to score the next game. This will be the game the Padres score 4 or more runs. My play of the day is San Diego/Philadelphia OVER 6.5 -110
