Christopher's Blue Collar Lunch Pail Pick

Many of use sports as a diversion. An escape from our daily affairs for a couple of hours. Some of us use sports as a way to garner an income be it from playing or wagering. Last night, baseball took a supporting role in the death of a man that forced us to face reality in a somber and distorted light. His actions may have caused immense heartache, but solidarity ensued few of us had seen before as Americans. As the Mets were playing the Phillies in an epic extra inning battle, we were reminded of the contrast and parallels between sports and what happened Sept. 11, 2001. The first baseball pitch after 9/11 was a triumphant and bittersweet one. I was living in New York at the time, and in the weeks following the attack, sports became a symbol of what was strong about America. Last night, as the Philadelphia crowd chanted "USA" after hearing about the death Of Osama Bin Laden, I had chills. Yes, for most sports is a diversion. At times, it is a reminder of what is right about humanity.

Did you hear the OTHER news? Yes, the free plays of the day have won 2 in a row!!! Not to be outdone, my premium plays went 2-0 as well, bringing them up to a nice profit. If you haven't signed up already for my premium play service, I hope you give it a look. For a nominal fee, you can have my insight and focus on all things sports gambling related. Tonight we have a match up between two teams I feel will be fighting for Wild Card spots come the end of the season. Milwaukee is throwing Yovani Gallardo on the mound against the Atlanta Braves and Jair Jurrjens. Jurrjens has pitched fantastic this year, and Gallardo who has had a rough time of it, did pitch very well against the Braves 3 weeks back. The total on this game is set at 7.5, and that has a lot to do with Gallardo's success against the Braves. The question I had to ask myself was did I think Gallardo was going to pitch as well the second time around. His numbers state otherwise. Rule of thumb in baseball is after you have seen an average starting pitcher once, you make adjustments, and he tends to get shelled the next meeting. As well as Jurrjens has pitched, he faces a formidable offense in Milwaukee. The OVER has gone 7-1 in the last 8 games in Atlanta, and with the Braves averaging more than 5 runs a game in the last 8, I am all over the OVER tonight. My free play of the day is Atlanta/Milwaukee OVER 7.5 -115.
